XC90 LPG Tank Size?
Can all who have an LPG conversion on their XC90 please let me know what's the largest tank that can be fitted? Either in a single tank or as multiple tank combinations. I'm ideally looking at external tanks as I don't want to lose internal space.

I would be careful going to large on the LPG tank as when I fitted the largest tank to my 960 after a few years it damaged the self leveling suspension due to the extra weight ...
My C70 has a smaller donut tank (fitted in the spare wheel well) which only takes 45L but will last 200 miles ...

I have a 70 ltr tank (60 useable). I only ever half fill the petrol tank at the most, so i can't believe it will affect the suspension.

Weighty problem?
Not really.
At 15 degrees C liquid propane weighs 4.2 lbs per US gallon, which is around 1.9 kg. A US gallon is 3.8 litres, so liquid propane weighs around 0.5 kg per litre. So 60 litres of liquid propane will weigh 30kg, which is 66lbs, which is around 4st 12lbs in old money. A tankful of petrol weighs roughly .75kg per litre, so a 60 litre tankful will weigh around 45kg. A 15" spare wheel and tyre weighs in at around 35lbs - around 18kg. So if you fill your LPG tank and keep the petrol tank 1/4 full the total on-board weight of fuel will be just over 40kg, which is of course 5kg less than the weight of petrol in a full tank. There's the weight of the LPG tank to take into consideration of course, but if a Volvo can't carry the sort of weight that we're discussing then it's time to switch over to a Reliant Robin! In answer to your question: http://www.go-lpg.co.uk/tanks.html Cheers Jack Last edited by capt jack; Mar 3rd, 2011 at 13:24. |

What are the measurements of that tank, do you know? It does seem to dominate the back end; if thats a 70ltr then I may have to reconsider what I have installed.
I'd be worried about backing that into one of those high kerbs in a car park or similar. I know the tanks are as tough as old boots but I still wouldn't want to klunk it! |

Has a Volvo tow bar fitted. The tank fills the space!
Your talking seriously high kerbs to hit the tank on it! I wouldn't have any less than 70ltr. Rob.

Is tha tank on the one in the last pic the same size as the one fitted to the red XC90 in the link? The size on this later photo looks quite descrete but looks a monster on the red one. The red one seems to have the bumper cut away too and your black one seems fully intact. Is this the case.
Re kerbs, I ws thinking more of carparks where I word and around Norwich where they seem to put the damn great 9" chunky lumps of conrete in place. |
