Default summer time and the engine is easy

Each year at around this time, as the thermometer approaches 20, my D5 (2008 - owned 5 years) sounds so much smoother/quieter (at lower speeds/in lower gears - always smooth at speed) - ironic, really, considering its homeland/natural habitat. Even after a very long run in the winter it's not the same. I guess it's just due to its acoustic properties - or, if others haven't experienced this, could there be another reason: hardening rubbers in the engine mounts or similar?

Me.
I said always my car is not for winter. It is somehow nervous, also knocking noise is so loud in winter until warms up (probably lifters).

Also until engine is warm, first 10-15 min, is like spoiled kid who doesn't want to go in school.

It seems different designs of engines function optimally in different temperature/humidity environments. The last series of cars I owned all had the same V6 engine and all took on a new life on crisp, cool slightly damp days while the D5 seems to prefer dry mid temperatures. I'm sure it's down to the minutiae of different aspects of the induction/ignition/compression/exhaust systems which define the engine design. I reckon a cool damp morning was worth an extra couple of bhp for my V6s! It's nice that the D5 seems to like the sort of weather that makes us humans feel good about ourselves. Or perhaps it's that that makes the car seem to go better when the sun first starts to shine as summer approaches!
