Is the Sat Nav any good?
It seems very expensive, is it really worth the large outlay? Even if I spec it with the premium pack it comes in at £800. I currently use Tom-Tom but we're wondering if its worth getting the Volvo one?
How good is it in use, how accurate is it, does it go down to street level like Tom-Tom or are there any other after market units that are better suited and would fit in the Sat-Nav hole? I'm not that bothered about trailing cables but the advantage of a separate unit is that I can take it with me. Are there any hidden costs i.e. extra for traffic announcements etc. We're almost ready to place an order, in the next week or so, just looking at the final questions. |

The factory fit will work fine, but you are paying for the integration, not the functionality.
If the functionality is more important to you then go for an aftermarket fit model and choose exactly what you want/need. Personally I am happy to have factory fit, but I'm not that fussy, I like the slick out of the dash fitment! |

as sat navs go its not a bad system.it has a large screen and can be operated from the steering wheel or by remote.and as its integrated it has to look better than something stuck on the windscreen.IMO though a sat nav should always be used in conjuction with a good atlas.

I like it on ours as it knows where you are at all times and doesn't take ages to find the satalites. It isn't as good functionaly wise as our portable one but I like the fact that it is a lot less likely for some one to try and steal it. Also updates cost more than a cheap portable unit but for us it was some thing we made sure was in the car we chose.

Factory fit works for me to. I work in and round London alot and my system has been great. The TMC function is fantastic. I didn't have a lot of faith in it at first but the TMC has got me out of a few situations in the past.

Hi Guys,
I know I mention it in other posts but when it comes to sell you will get more than your money back on trade in if you add the Sat Nav. Think about it, when someone wants a used XC60 they are going to go for the one with a "Media Pack" rather than a lesser specced one. The dealers know this and that is what they look for. Auto (Geartronic) and Sat Nav is the minimum that they look for simply because they can shift them faster and therefore costs them less in the long run. Don't forget that the dealer only makes his money when he has sold you the new one AND sold your trade in. Leather also will feature on this level and status of vehicle. P.S I am not a dealer but have bought enough to have made the mistakes in the past! Clem |

out of interest what's the cost of updating the maps? And does it cost more the older the map is it's replacing. I replaced the TomTom GO520 UK & Ireland 2008 map it came with, 18 months later with the newer 2009 map [ as I wanted the lane guidance option that map included, and to a lesser degree the IQ mapping it also included] cost was £55 with four free map upgrades for the following twelve months.
Can you add in additional POI's and such via a laptop?

two years worth of upgrades, that's not bad mind you the initial cost is not cheap. Do you get world maps or have you the option to chose, say UK + Europe

It doesn't say? It just states "Two free map updates" so I would imagine they will be updates of my current maps which are world wide.
Just read through the information and I receive the updates as they become available so hopefully when the new updates come out I'll get my disc, but it clearly states I get 2 updates over the next 24 months from the date I registered. NAVTEQ is the name of the company. |
