Default 480 turbo jolting during turbo pressure

im thinking of buying a 91 480 turbo with 97k on the clock, but during a test drive on hard acceleration the car started jolting while the turbo was at max psi. the rest of the time the car performed ok no lumpiness. there was no smoke from the tail pipe, but there did seem to be an oil leak at the back of the engine somewhere. any ideas on whats wrong and how expensive it could be to fix?

Do you have a boost gauge? if so did you notice what it was indicating during the "surging"( possibly overfuelling caused by poor electrical connecton around engine sensors and ECU).

All the best, Peter

the pressure was steady but the jolting seemed almost like misfiring maybe caused by a dicky ht lead, but at normal non boost condition it was ok? there was an oil leak at the back of the engine somewhere, and also some sort of sticky goo coming out of the joint between the top inlet manifold and the bit that curls round into the engine, maybe fuel or instant gasket?

the problem on the car in question was caused by a faulty
airflow meter, this has been changed and the car now accelerates cleanly throughout the range. the oil leak has been cured by tightening the sump bolts.
