185 or not?
Hi all, i went to see a v70 yesterday and it is advertised as 185bhp engine but after reading the spec info on autotrader i believe it may be the 163bhp version. Is there a way of telling the two apart just by looking at the engine? I know the older 185 had grey plastic cover on the engine but this is the newer version ie 57reg. I would appreciate all input as i am quite interested in the car. Thanks.

If it is a D5 then all D5's from 06 to 09 are 185bhp. If it's the 2.4d engine then it Will be 163bhp. One way of checking is to see if you can find the engine code written on the engine then you can use this to check the power output.

On my V70, if I open the drivers door there's a sticker on the sill that tells me the model and power. Have a hunt around for something similar, maybe under the bonnet.

My 175ps 2.4d (sold to me by Volvo as 175ps and registered on the ownership documents as a Euro 5 175ps) has an engine cover that says 'D5' and a sticker on the B-pillar that reads 163ps.
I wouldn't trust anyhing but the ownership documents... (Forgot to say it is a 59-reg) Last edited by cloggers; May 27th, 2013 at 11:53. Reason: added age of car |
