Default Please Help !!! Failed on Emissions

Hi all

My S40 (1999 Gdi engine) has just failed on emissions. The person looking at the car for me has done an oil and filter change, the plugs have been replaced, the breather pipe (I think that’s what it is called, has been checked, the throttle housing is clear. Does anyone know what else can be done? Would appreciate your help. Thank you.

Sir,
Have the lambda sensor checked out. That will make the emissions better and give you alot better gas savings. If you want to know more about a lambda sensor. Get Bosch fuel injection & engine management great book.By Charles O. Probst,SAE.
Hope this helps.

Try putting a fuel system cleaner (Redex etc) in the tank and giving it a good blast up the motorway. GDIs suffer from coke build-up on the injector nozzle as they are located inside the cylinder and not in the inlet manifold like a conventional petrol engine.

I have had a few GDIs fail on the emissions myself and sometimes this is all it takes to get them to pass so its got to be worth a go first.

nothing new for the gdi lump. all it needs is a good "italian tune" on 1/4 tank put a full bottle of cleaner in it the hammer the crap out of it. done this many times with the gdi. and sometimes you will be amazed the amount of crap that comes out the back. but id that dont work the head may have to come off and be cleaned manually

l've always put Cataclean in the tank and run it, to clean out as much of the cat as possible.....then take it for a good run so the engine is good and warm before taking it back in for a re-test.

Good luck!
