Default baby on the way forces sale of c30 in favour of v50

Hello good people of Volvo forum due to unforeseen change in my circumstances (baby on the way) i am planning to shift my Volvo c30 d5 in favour of v50 t5 and my question is how is this car to live with ? real time mpg around town? Performance? Reliability? Manual or automatic? Thank you in advance for all your help.

We bought a v50 d5 r design sport when we had a baby as the golf Gti we had just wasn't
Big enough. Tbh it was a really good choice.

The t5 will do mid on high 20's mpg but will go well.

Recent thread covering this. See

http://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showthread.php?t=196102

We have a baby (4 month old) and even with the V50, needed a roof box for longer trips to get all the baby paraphernalia in! V50 boot isn't actually that big. If your sizing up from a C30 then think about going all the way and look at V70's (of the T5 variety - naturally!)

Good advice from 850 Chris. We have V50 and much older 940. The 940 is always used for family outings as there is so much more room in it.

As much as the Powershift auto box is good when it works, there isn't much the dealer can do to help if it goes wrong in any way. Replacement is likely to cost £5000+, so choose carefully.

I have had such a poor experience with my V50 and the cost of running it - items that are dealer only and vastly expensive - that I have bought my last Volvo (the V50 was my 8th Volvo). I am looking at a Skoda Superb to replace the 940.

The best thing about running a Volvo now is this site.

Good luck, whatever you decide.

I might well be out of touch here but I always get confused when people say they need a bigger motor for a baby. Is it the size of these enormous push-chairs I see now? or just the fact you've got to lift the stuff over a boot edge rather than slide it into an estate?

We had a baby and toddler in a Citroen AX for the first 3 years, our other car was a Ford Onion which was small too. Back then though there were no fashions for large push chairs, we had a very light foldy thing that folded flat and really small.

I would say the biggest challenge is the getting the kids in-and-out of a car and this is where these MPV-type cars score well as you don't need to bend down to load the kids in.

YES!!!

The 'wheels and frame part'...

Then you got the 'car' baby seat part...

Then you got the 'stroller seat' part too for when you walk about.

I'd probably go the V70 route too, one kid in a V50 is fine, but 2 is pushing it.

Plus 2 baby seats in the back of a V50 leaves virtually no space for a passenger in the middle of them.

If you plan to have any more or need to take more people in your car the go bigger...size matters in this scenario!

I don't know if your C30 is manual or auto. All I can say is our C30 D5 was an amazing car spoilt by the slow, slushy auto box.

Hi i have auto box with recent remap and dpf delete from shark . Remap helped a lot but auto box is still sluggish . But I really like auto box especially when I am changing my car for my Mrs Peugeot with manual transmission.
