Paint code identification
I should have taken notice when I had my V70R, but can someone tell me the paint code for Saffron??
Is it a number code or letter code or a mix of both. Also, does the colour code indicate any mix ratio, ie, 3 parts colur A, 2 parts colour B, etc. My impending next Volvo is Silver but I have desires to have it resprayed in Saffron. Thanks

Quote:
Again, not to match existing paint work, but to respray in a new colour, how would they know the mix ratio or does the code numbers relate to this ratio. Thanks

Yes - I think all Volvo paint codes are just the 3 digits. Certainly I took mine - "418" into Halfords the other day, and the computer came up with the mix ratio, etc ending up with the right colour.
Good service btw - mixed to match spray can of the right colour for about £8 in less than 10 mins. Graeme |

There might be something after the first three, the code for mine is 601-2.

Yes, the "dash" number is the original manufactuer of the paint. Mine is actually 418-12, but not relevant for re-ordering!
Well picked up on, though, I should have been clearer, to avoid confusion. Thanks Graeme |

A secondary thought...
These days, if you go to a professional company for respray work, they use a special device to examine the existing paint because it may have faded a little over time. That device gives them precise details of how to mix a paint of the correct and matching colour. When I first got my V70 it had, and I was aware of, a slightly dented front wing which had actually ended up with quite a twist in the metal below the front indicator. I took it to a pro bodyshop and they stated from the start that it would mean a complete respray of the front wing after they had made it the correct shape. They resprayed and the colour match was perfect. However... my paint (midnight blue) does have a slight metallic content (nothing like the 'real' metallic - just enough to show, though) and if I get the sun on that wing at just the wrong angle, the colour has a slight green tinge to it. Some years ago, I bought a 2nd hand car and I insisted on one of the sills (slightly damaged) be sorted as part of the deal. That was a very metallic finish and the difference of that bit was, sometimes, even more obvious. So, be aware that metallic paint respray work is unlikely to be perfect - whichever way you go!

Any ideas on the cost to fully respray a phase 2 V70?

How long is a piece of string?
Seriously, it would be impossible to give such a quote without seeing the original car... and even then there would be a great deal of variation between bodyshops. So much depends on the underlying condition of the body and how much preparation work would need to be done first. In most cases, preparation of the car for a respray can represent anything between 60% and 90% of the effort! Talk to friends that have had work done to their cars and shop around. Try and get a look into the bodyshops and see what sort of effort goes into their preparations and, of course, look at one of their completed projects.
