Where is the engine oil going ?
I have a V/40 1.8i. Bought it new in July '99. It has 40k miles.
Last summer I noticed a sharp increase in oil consumption. When monitored it turned out to be using about 550 miles per liter ( of semi synthetic ). The local Mr Volvo thinks this is excessive ( have to agree with him ) Since then the hunt has been on to find out where it is going. Here are some indicators where it is not going : (i) No oil leaks under the car (ii) No Mayo on the underside of the oil filler cap (iii)Coolant looks good ( clean ) and does not need topping up (iv) No noticeable smoke ( blue or white ) from exhaust At the end of last year local Mr Volvo lifted head, reground valves and replaced valve seals but this made no difference. Anyone got any idea where the oil is going ? Olddog |

RE: Where is the engine oil going ?
Try using oil of a slightly higher viscosity.
Now your engine has worn in a bit you will probably find that more oil is getting round the piston rings. This should hopefully do the trick and it has worked for others in the past. Dan. |
