RSE sound through rear speakers?
My first XC90 has arrived and I am delighted with it. 2011MY D5 Lux Premium
I specified RSE with it. My little (aged 4 and 5) grand-daughters find the headphones too large with insufficient adjustment for a smaller head. Anyone managed to find a way of overcoming this. Also can the sound from the DVD be channeled through the rear speakers instead of the headphones? Many thanks |

If its the same as the older models, you press the speaker button on the remote and sound will come through on the rear speakers, and press again to return to headphones.

Select AUX on the radio (turn the right hand selector knob until you see AUX in the display). The RSE sound output is connected in line with the "audio in" socket by the front cupholders (so this won't work if you have something else connected to this input).
You can't have anything else on in the front but you can divert the sound to the rear speakers if you don't want to listen along with whatever they have on. |

Or you can just use the rear headphone connectors in the side pillars and plug in ipod type headphones. Push the select button until you can hear the DVD playing. You can use up to 4 sets at once.

Thanks XCF You were spot on. The girls will be pleased.
Regret my car not fitted with ear plug connections on rear pillars. |

great Thread. Thanks for this as I have just ordered an XC90 2011 with RSE and with 2 and 4 year kids I was worried about the headphones.
BTW both the dealer and Volvo customer services said that you cannot get the sound through the speakers and yet the volvo website accessory page says you can! |

You are welcome Redhead. Don't forget that with RSE you also get the darkened rear and side windows. Mine is magic blue and could almost pass for a mafia staff car!!!

Meant to say dvd sound is through all speakers so all on board can enjoy but only those in the back can appreciate the moving images.

I have just picked up an '04 XC90 and I'm trying to establish whether I can get the DVD audio to play through the speakers. Our DVD player is the 10 disc version mounted in the boot, not in the console between the front seats. I don't think it's integrated in the same way as the RSE setup that is described, but there is mention of the older versions and the speaker button on the remote which I don't think we have. We do not have an Aux function and the controls on the pillars only pick up radio or CD's playing through the stereo. So my questions are: 1. Is the post describing the system with 2 disc DVD player? 2. Has anyone managed to get the 10 disc version to play through their speakers and if so how? 3. I have read a couple of posts about tuning the stereo to pick up the 863 MHz signal that the headphones would pick up, but I haven't a clue how to find the right FM frequency - can anyone shed some light? Will post this elsewhere too, but any input gratefully received! |
