Default Question 2003 XC90 T6 rear shock replacement

Hi,

My 2003 XC90 T6 need new rear shock, I have a few questions

1. I think it is nivomat, how to verify it? Based on vin number ?
2. For nivomat rear shock, I see two different part number 30683451 and 30635776, sounds both of them fit my car, is it correct?

Thanks in advance.

I think all UK XC90s are 7 seat and all use nivomat. If you look at the shock it is very thick compared to standard ones and has rubber bellows on the top section.

If you buy new the cheapest I found was https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/325480716506, but i needed a pair.

You're correct but it would appear that the OP resides in the US (their user profile states Seattle) and therefore it's also possible that his vehicle doesn't.

To the OP's question: the definitive answer can be found by looking at the chassis code plate on your vehicle (not the VIN). It will tell you exactly what it was factory fitted with, and if it is nivomat, which version it should be. There are two types and they aren't interchangeable.

For the sake of clarity, that information is found (on European models, at least) on a sticker affixed to the rear passenger side of the driver's B-pillar. The information of interest is the 12 digit "product id", sometimes called the chassis code.

In the attached example, from my V8, you can see that the rear suspension uses spring "marked 54" and nivomat "marked 48" (part no. 30635776).

The other nivomat type is "marked 26" and corresponds to part no. 30683451.

Oops, missed that. Sorry to the OP for confusing the issue.
