Default Pre remap dyno results!!

Hi guys, I posted a thread earlier this week asking questions about remapping and also saying I was going to go for the rica upgrade and put the car on a DYNO before and after......well today the car has been on a dyno. She is a 2011 c30 r-design D3 with 150HP from the factory, the car has done 23K so I was expecting something close to the 150hp at the flywheel, she maxed out at 163.2 hp at the fly and 377.5Nm of torque. So that's 13 more hp and 27 more torque than what it should have BEFORE I've even had the remap....confused!

The calculations and assumptions rolling road operators apply to get from torque at the wheels (which they measure) to torque at the flywheel can be a bit GCSE and usually optimistic to flatter the car owner. You're talking about a 10% error from what you'd expect, which isn't hard to believe.

As the previous poster says, the difference is what matters. Ideally you want to get the tests done as close to each other as possible on the same day, with the same tank of fuel and with as many other parameters the same. Day to day variations in temperature, pressure, calibration of the rolling road and a load of other variables can affect the result. Also make sure you use the same rolling road and the same operator if you can.

As a trained scientist and engineer I find the way most rolling roads are run and the figures derived from them to be quite upsetting

I think i would prefer to spend my 2 rolling road fees on fuel to make use of the big money i have spent to get some extra power :-)

It's going to be a nervous run when it's back on the dyno with a remap!

Make sure it doesnt jump off the rollers with all the new torque !

I had a good chat with the guy who did the test and he was surprised by the output, apparently their rolling road cAn be a heartbreaker with claimed accuracy of +or- 0.5hp, I know a few people who have left disappointed from this dyno but as you say the hp at the fly is found through calculations. They also said that they can recreate some of the parameters such as temp and air density which will give a far more accurate reading of the increase.
My concern is I spoke to the garage that is installing my rica remap and they've taken my reg and vin number to send to rica just to check it can be mapped because they said they've had a few c30s that they can't remap because the software won't be ready until April! There are also other volvo models with a d3 engine with figures of 163hp and the only upgrade boosts it to 185hp which isn't worth the money they want to me!
As soon as I (hopefully) get the remap she will be back on the dyno for an update

I'll be more worried that it won't hit the claimed figures! For £500 plus vat!
