Default fuel leak

Recently i noticed my fuel efficiency was dropping a lot, i would accelerate to 70 whack on cruise control and normally get high 50s but could only manage 48mpg and that was at 50-60mph mostly around a roads. I just moved my car and noticed a puddle at the front, thought it was my radiator leaking but put my finger in the liquid and instantly realised its fuel, i havent had a look yet but am i right in presuming the only thing it can be is a leaky hose? car runs fine still. Looks like a pain in the ass to get under where its leaking, its the right side of the engine as you face it.

Hi
Before you grovel under the car take off the engine cover and check the spill return hoses on the injectors - they have a habit of looking perfect because of the woven cover but actually get very fragile and incontinent as they age - best of all its a very cheap and easy fix!

Cheers

Hello again

Without going out and having a look ( its raining sideways at present!) I'd say the pipe you've highlighted is the vac pipe from the vac pump to the brake booster- in other words its not a fuel pipe. Since that pipe passes under the injection pump/injector area its possible that a fuel leak is dribbling down to the lowest point which is why you are seeing it there. Take the engine cover off and you will see the pipes I was talking about.

Cheers

I've removed the engine cover and had a look, it seems the fuel is leaking from here.

Heres a second pic so you can see where it is.

It looks like its coming from under the bit with 2 screws and what looks to me like a gasket between it, presumably it just needs a new gasket? I couldnt feel anything else under there so im 99% sure its where its leaking and its worse when you rev it presumably because its higher pressure and the gasket lets more out.

I've just looked at my spare pump and yes it is just a gasket under a cover held on by 2 torx. I've had a quick search and I can't find a gasket for it

Looks like this is what i need although im going to see if volvo have one as id rather not have a car to get to work. Im guessing if this ones gone then the others probably arent far behind though and the cars done 222k, if it has to come off to get the lot replaced that means getting the pump timing redone and its spot on at the moment.

That kit does your pump but that particular gasket isn't in there. And if you do go down the route of having it fully resealed the pump timing is the least of your worries because a reseal is a pricey old job.

B*gger!

Just been out to look at what you are talking about ( the rain is still going sideways - but from the other direction) and the same area on my pump also seems to have a slight seep. Looks like I'll have to investigate this in the non too distant future as well. We must have each got the equivalent of 'Friday afternoon parts' if both these pumps are starting to leak after only 17+ years and 220K+ miles!

Cheers
