Default Hydra Alloys and 40mm drop - 740GLE

Hi guys, I'm about to buy some 16" Hydra alloys for my 740GLE, just hoping you could clear a few questions up for me?

1 - Will these wheels definitely fit? I've tried some 15" Virgo alloys on mine which fit fine, but didn't realise they were in such bad condition, so looking to get these 16" Hydra's instead.

2 - Are the wheel nuts the same? Mine are currently just chamfered nuts (opposed to sleeved nuts that I have seen used for some alloys in the past). My nuts fit both my current 14" alloys and the Virgo's ok so I'm guessing Volvo were quite consistent with wheel nuts?

3 - I'm looking to drop the car a bit. Has anyone tried these springs? Jamex 40mm lowering? Seem very good price.

I lowered my Audi 80 40mm in the past and used just cheap springs from Ebay and it handled fantastic.. nearly aswell as my Mini!!

4 - For the 40mm drop springs would I need to use different shocks (i.e. shorter)?

Cheers for any help you can give!

Ok, so bought the Hydra Alloys (cheers Frogster) and fitted them last night! So please ignore questions 1 & 2!! I'll get some pics up with the Hydra's on - looks much better!

Any ideas on 3 & 4 about the Jamex 40mm lowering springs, and suitable shocks?

Definitely will put pics up, was going to Thurs, but as i'm on site for Work i've had to leave the Volvo at work and bring the works Astra home for weekend! Will get Volvo back Tues, so should post up pics Weds!

They really do make the car look so much better, and handling is sharper than the floppy high profile 14' that were on there! Btw, nice estate you've got!

Ok, here's a before and after pic! Old 14's vs. new Hydra 16's!

Still think it needs lowering a bit though! Anyone got any advice on lowering 40mm?? Anyone used the Jamex springs?

Looks loads better!
I lowered mine 40 on Jamex's at the weekend. Well, tried to. Bit of a long story but i needed new 40mm lower fronts to replace the two broken spax 40mm lowering springs which had previously broken.
With regards to race dynamics, the springs arrived in a damaged resealed by dhl box with no protection. They have no Jamex markings. The fronts fitted fine returning my car to the correct level ride height. However the rears are totally different and its only due to the fact i already have 40mm lowing springs on the rear that i didnt end up taking the front two back off again. If that makes sense?!
I phoned them for advice and they said send them all back for a refund. They have no alternative springs and when i suggested they may have put the wrong rear springs in the box I was told that never happens!

Car looks good buddy. I have used race dynamics before but from there ebay store. I ordered some 60mm springs for my E36 bmw. When i took them out of the box, the front were red and the rear were blue, but had no Jamex markings on them. I fitted them anyway. They had no change on the ride hight at all!!!! called them to confirm if these were correct and they said that there maybe an issue with my car and i could send them back for a refund!!! They also wanted me messure the hight from the centre bore of my wheel to the ground to determin the ride hight????? explained this would not change as the weels are not going smaller!!!! I didnt bother sending them back as it was too much hassel taking them off again and most probably a pain getting my money back

Right, so think I'm well put off Race Dynamics.

Know of anywhere else I can get some cheap-ish lowering springs?

I live in Andover near Race Dynamics and haven't been all that impressed. The shop is a bit like Halfords without the useful stuff ! Probably ok but you need to know what to order.
I think German and Sweedish and Eurocar parts can get springs have a look on their sites. Have a look on the manufacturers websites to check what you are getting as well.
