Default XC90 Bi-Xenon Active headlamp adjustment

2008 XC90 SE Lux with the active Bi-Xenon headlamps.

I am very impressed with the light given off from these headlamps - which is literally brilliant !

The slight problem I have, is that my dipped beam is set a little too low for my liking, and want to adjust it th ebe slightly higher.

Having looked at the car - on top of each headlamp is what appears to be an adjuster with white nylon hexagonol head, about 4mm across the flats.

Is this for adjusting the headlamp in the vertical plane ?

I don't want to fiddle with it in case it is not the right adjuster, and I end up ruining the settings for the "active" system.

I know I could just take it to the dealer, where they have equipment to set up the beams, but I always find these to be on the low side, and I would prefer to set them up myself manually.

Thanks.

If you take it to the dealer or anyone who has a set up machine put the knurled wheel in the cab which adjusts the headlamps maually in the mid position and then you can alter the lights at your leasure.

Thanks for replying but it doesn't help !

1) I have no manual adjustment wheel inside the car - they are self levelling headlamps, and

2) As stated - I know I could take it to a dealer, but prefer to be able to set it up myself, which will probably need a couple of adjustments in the dark to get them how I want them.

I just want to make sure ( before I start ) that the adjusters I intend to turn ( as described ) are indeed the ones for vertical adjustment, and that I won't be inadvertently messing up the auto levelling system

Default Too low for me

I also have a 2008/xenons and these also look too low. How do I tweak them up a tad.

Had the same problem on mine;I felt they were set too low; had them checked at dealer's who proclaimed they were exactly right.

Have since then adjusted them upwards by 1 and a half full turn several weeks ago. Throw is much better and haven't been flashed once.

For upwards adjustment you need the little white hex screws nearer the centre of the car (if that makes sense) and turn them anti-clockwise.

Hope this helps.

I couldn't get the self-levelling lights on my S60R high enough for my liking - didn't matter how I set them, the self-levelling would always reset them lower. Eventually disconnected the self-levelling plugs behind each headlamp and was then able to set the beam manually.

Just adjusted my non-xenons.. that's the knob to adjust the default height.

8mm socket IIRC.

Check that headlights are in correct position and that the height adjusters are engaged this may be the problem.
