High Pitched whine in cabin - driving me mad!
Hello All,
There is a high pitch whine coming from the infotainment area on my P3 XC60. It's fairly constant. Noticeable when first getting in the car before start up, also during driving and after stopping. It will stop momentarily stop then a few seconds later start again for another 10 or 15 seconds. It's really annoying and I'm resorting to whacking up the fan or listening to music for temporary relief. I like driving in silence though! Any ideas?

Do you have the AC on? Noise from the AC is extremely common. Try playing with the AC to see if it alters.

Nope, it's not AC related as far as I can tell. Does it with A/C off or on. It's hard to pinpoint exactly but the strongest sound seem to come from just under the CD slot.....

She's definitely not the cause of this issue

I must have missed before but you state the noise appears when you first get in the car before it has even started. This of course would rule the AC out. I can only think it would be something electrical that is causing your issue. Have you tried shutting down the infotainment screen incase it is this causing the problem. Is noise present with just ignition on and fan off?

I've spent some time this afternoon in the car trying to pin point it. Interestingly the noise does come to a whirling stop once parked up after driving. A good friend of mine on another forum suggested the Internal temp sensor as it has a little fan and I think that is the issue. Certainly the right area and the shutdown sounds like a tiny fan coming to a stop. I don't want to savage the dash with screwdrivers so I've bought a small dash removal tool set and will dig a bit deeper once that arrives but I'm think I'm on the right track. It's obviously not a common issue - can't find much at all online! Will update once confirmed for benefit of future readers.

It might just be dirt/dirt build up. Try a vacuum, but be careful, don't damage the sensor. The sensor may be visible through the small grille ? If so DON'T poke around with it, it's easily damaged. |
