Question Infrequent but annoying when it happens

Got into the car at Sainsburys after shopping, reversed my S40 (2.0D) out of the bay, noticed the reversing bleeps didn't come on,also the radio/cd wasn't working either. Got home switched off, tried it again, still no joy. Unloaded the shopping, had a cuppa, went back out to take my daughter to work, guess what....it was working again. This has happened a few times, annoying when it does, has anyone else ever had this happen,if so what's the cure please???? It's a 2.0D (54)plate se 75k on the clock. All responses welcome,Thanks.Ringo.

My old V50 (also 54-plate) did this once. Left 10 minutes and it was fine. It never happened again the whole time i owned it.

I've had this a couple of times, no audio from the stereo or the bluetooth handsfree.

Ignition off/on has worked sometimes, the last time I had to switch off and remove the key followed by a lock/unlock of the car.

Had this once too. Only the reversing bleepers though, which was unfortunate as I backed into my mates car when picking him up for work!!! Luckily no damage done (& yes I did tell him lol). I'll never completely trust them again though.

I'v had this with the radio sometimes. iv notice more if I hit a pothole or brake to sharply.

Looked at the manual for my S40 (09) and it does mention that on certain models it has a saftey feature (IDIS) (http://www.volvocars.com/in/all-cars.../features.aspx) that can cut Radio/CD and Phones if it detects that you need more concentration on the road (Like braking while indicating ect).

Iv just had to wait for it to comeback on or switch it off/on.

I might be talking rubbish, but it seem to me something like that.

My '05 S40 (High Performance) audio system seems to get amnesia once every 6-8 weeks. From memory the display lights up and displays FM1 and Preset 1, but for all intents and purposes is totally dead.

Trick that works for me is turning the ignition key back to 0 (the locked position) so that the electrics are off, holding in the Volume/Power button, and then ignition to III (start position)

Took me a while to work out this 'fix' as I could come back to the car hours after the problem developed and it would still be there but thankfully this solves it first time, every time.

Hope that helps.

Try checking the connections to the amp in the boot. Mine had one that was a bit dirty and gave a similar problem. A quick squirt of contact cleaner and it cured it.
