Default Insurance

I received my XC60 Momentum end of September and transferred my insurance, rate was acceptable but they described the vehicle as “Inscription “
Did not bother to query the minor mistake at that point. At renewal a week ago the description unchanged so today I thought I had better correct it for the sake of accuracy. Somewhat intrigued to find that they assess the cheaper model £83 more to insure !

No doubt if you'd insured a Momentum but owned an Inscription then that would also be more expensive to change over!
They just make these numbers up - don't seem to relate to anything

Does the Inscription have more safety features as standard than the Momentum ?. So attracting a lower premium or have they charged for changing the policy ?.

Some theories why this could be:
  • Is there any safety features standard on the more expensive model that would help prevent accidents ? Or perhaps the more expensive model is more likely to have any optional safety features ticked, and therefore is lower risk ?
  • Just a statistical peculiarity, that the cheaper cars are claimed on less and therefore cheaper to insure ?
  • "Any excuse, typical insurance company" ?

Not being a native I've had to Google him - I think you're probably right! (Very interesting fellow, BTW - clearly works in insurance!)

When I told my previous insurer I had fitted front and rear dashcams they put the price up. Claimed it was because in an accident, if the cameras were damaged then they'd have to pay for those as well! That was AA. Refused to use them again.

With LV now (have been with them previously) and they reduced it very slightly.

Given that cameras can prove (or disprove as the case may be) a claim and save the insurer money, you'd think they'd be offering better discounts to get people using them.

Had one insurer tell me that every option, even if factory fitted, had to be declared, But their system couldn't cope with the type of options. So when I declared on a precious car that I had upgraded to LED full adaptive lights (arguably a safety feature), they wanted to put it down as spot lights and increase the premium. That was Admiral - never used them since either.

I revert to what has been said above - they just make it up as they go along.
