Volvo warranty UK Vs USA
Stumbled across this that Volvo gives 5 years warranty and 3 years servicing as part of the package when buying a car in USA. it used to be 7 years, I think even on a second hand car.
South Africa also does 5 years We get a bum deal here!! http://volvo.custhelp.com/app/answer...volvo-warranty

It is lousy that in Europe they give only the required 2y and everything extra is charged, when with other car companies 5 (or even 7) is almost standard.

3 years, it's pretty crap that all the premium brands give the minimum. I even saw that Alfa give 5 years in the UK.
Why would Volvo, Merc, BMW, Audi not want to give their customers a great product..........ah yes money

We might be tempted to hang on to them longer until the warranty runs out at 5 years instead of 3 years.
Short sighted though as they would more likely sell more cars if advertised with 5 or 7 year warranties.

+ we would service them longer in the dealer network and not go to specialists.
Having said that it's quite hard now with the software needed to service them not to go to Volvo.

I don't have any data to back this up, but suspect that the dominance of 3-yr lease deals in the UK market has a big influence (the buying power isn't interested in longer warranties). Also, nothing is for nothing - if longer warranties and service deals were 'included' in the on-the-road price, that price would be higher. Ultimately the market is influenced by what we the buyers are prepared to pay for and presumably longer warranties are not seen as a differentiator.
And maybe the current pricing model is sensible - when I bought my car I had the option of 5 years servicing for £500, and hence I could decide whether I wanted to pay that up front or not, rather than being forced to buy 'inclusive' servicing as a bundled cost. It's a bit like the low-cost airline model, where you decide whether to pay extra for hold luggage or not.

The service deal is a small part really. Its more the warranty for peace of mind, they choose not to give 5 or 7 years as they don't have to.
It was more an observation really as the cost of cars is complex one, trade deals, lease deals and all sorts play a part. I just would like a 5 year warranty included
