Default XC60 real world questions.

Hi, I'm thinking of buying a new XC60.

Im torn between 2 models at the moment and need some answers from the real world not from dealers!

1. I've read that there is a 2016 facelifted model. Would this likely be the car I'd have delivered in September?

2. What is a likely real world MPG figure for the

XC60 D5 AWD Lux Nav Manual

and the .

XC60 D5 AWD Lux Nav Geartronic

I'm thinking of Magic Blue with black leather.

The D5 engine, is this a bi-turbo 2.4 litre diesel?

Many thanks, I've been getting all sorts of conflicting information so far!

I drive a MY2013 D5 Geartronic (Euro 5) and it's a great engine. It does however have a extremely narrow economy 'band'. I seldom better 40mpg on motorway routes and if I'm in the very low 30's in town then I'm probably holding people up! The D5 is a Bi-Turbo motor with the auto having slightly more torque than the manual. The 2016 is up on power slightly and by all accounts feels more 'punchy' low down. Hope this helps

MY16 started appearing at the dealers end-May 2015. I ordered mine late March, actually before the MY16 price list went public. It was categorically stated it would be MY16, and I was able to change to a new MY16 colour in early April before the factory order was locked down.
Can't answer the mpg question as I have a D4 FWD manual, but I am very impressed with this so unless AWD is a 'must have', do test the new engine.

What MPG is acheivable on the FWD d4? Thanks,

Glad that if I order now, I'll receive the MY16 *phew*

With the manual D5 expect an average of 35mpg, around 37 motorway and 30 round town, a little less for the auto.

D4 front wheel drive averages 42mpg, with 60% urban. If you do not need all wheel drive, go for the front wheel drive D4.

You can see below exactly what you can expect as an average over 22k miles with mixed driving, mostly in the south.

Motorway driving will provide over 40mpg at 75 with little effort - if you want to be really light footed you will get higher than this

For the D4 FWD manual it seems to be around 44mpg on the display, BUT I have only done 750 miles, and I have not done the definitive brim-to-brim check. My old V50 was always optimistic by 2-3 mpg when checked this way.
If you live in a snow-prone area AND have steep hills, or you will be driving off-road, go AWD, otherwise FWD can still be an option - especially as your original question was directed towards 'economy'. The D4 FWD manual is £30pa VED !
I live in a snow-prone area with some steep hills, but will get a pair of Thule Easy-fit SUV chains for the once/twice a year I might need them. In my experience, it is (lack of) ground clearance in snow which is more of an issue than AWD. The XC60 has higher ground clearance than virtually all other SUVs.

Good point, and in an ideal world we might all drive AWD vehicles, but the 'perfect' XC60 does not exist. The new VEA engines are the future (hopefully with EGR issues sorted). Many XC60 drivers love their 5-pot engines, but (as stated elsewhere) the new 8-speed geartronic is sadly not available with the 5-pot, and the 6-speed is arguably a little under-geared.
It all comes down to a decision analysis on what is important for you as the purchaser (or leaser). Purchase budget and yearly running costs (mileage / mpg) are also relevant.

Fwd, manual - winter, 40-42 mpg. Summer 44-46 mpg. Big motorway trips, 46-48 is possible unless you go over 70 when it will drop quite a bit. I've done 16k so pretty accurate figures now.

I should add, lovely car, nice place to be.
