Default V70 D5 Towing 1630KG?

Hi, new here just doing a bit of research for a new towcar.

We have a 1635kg (max plated) single axel caravan and need a new towcar.

Been looking around and like the look of a V70 D5, on paper it will tow our van no problem but it is not a perfect match at 94%.

Has anyone got any first hand experance at these weights with a V70?

Maybe an AWD would be better but there are not many to be had, not too keen on the XC70 either.

Thanks Richard...

If its a twin axle it would be more stable.I tow at 1700kg and the car feels comfortable with that weight .I did have mine remaped as I felt it did struggle on setting off until it got going now its not a issue.

Hi Mike. Does the re-map really give the benefits claimed and is it the better way to go with the D5. Mine is a 2005 (05) SE Geartronic.
What are the implications with insurance and "modifications" or is it seen as a friendly one!!??
I have yet to tow with mine as I only got it in the middle of June and a move from West Lancashire into Northumberland has curtailed going away with the caravan.

Regards,

John.

Hi John.
there is a subtle difference with the map on i do not now have to give it that little extra.as for insurance i have informed them and it cost me in the region of £70,some will not insure if its over 20%of the original bhp as for extra MPG i have never tested what i am getting, the extra BHP is very good and puts the boost in early.

I have a 2010 V70 D5 AWD Geartronic. I tow a MPLW 1800kg van though it's not loaded to that, but if it was I'm at upper 90s%.
Performance-wise it's fine, towed over the Vosges in France easily. It does feel a little twitchy, as did the one tow I did with the previous 1500kg MPLW 'van, so tend to hover around the 55-58mph when towing which is fine but I'm retired and have a different concept of time.......
