940 Diesel MPG?
Bro is looking at 940 estate with the 6cylinder diesel.
Anyone know roughly what mpg to expect? Cheers |

However, i've heard rumours from what are usually reliable sources that diesel is going up considerably next year and also the VED on diesel cars is going up. With that in mind, he'd probably be better off with a petrol 940 and if running costs are really important, convert it to LPG which is about half the price of petrol. Better for the planet and better for his pocket too!

I've not got the exact figure to hand, but mine has done an average of approx 44mpg in the 30k+ miles I've done in the last 3 years. I'm disappointed these days if I don't get 45mpg. My figure is based on brimming the tank every time and calculation across the whole 30k+ miles. That said, it's only used for long runs sitting at 70mph on the cruise control on the motorway. Cold weather and air con use don't seem to make much difference to the figure. If I sit with the lorries I can top 50mpg. Round town I'd imagine the figure would be a bit lower, and I don't drive it hard. It's an m46 manual gearbox. |

Excellent! Cheers, he's been offered one that's been off the road for a year or so due to knackered rear calipers so buying as a short term project to have as a modern classic second car type of thing.
Is there anything else to look out for on these? |

Cambelt isn’t as cheap to do as on volvos with volvo engines so might be worth checking if there is any history of it been done.

If it's been off the road for a year or more, the cam belt is virtually a necessity to change ASAP, possibly before even trying to fire it up.
