S60 R design wheel issues
I have a 2017 S60 D4 R design with the 19" diamond cut wheels.
The other week in 2 seperate incidents in the same week, I drove over what can only be described as crater sized pot holes. I now have 2 cracked alloy wheels which have been repaired and have since failed so I will be buying 4 new wheels. My question is, is it possible to go up a profile size from 40 to 45 to protect the alloys a little? Or will this mess with the handling and ride with it being R Design? Many thanks, Dave. |

To go up a size in profile drop an inch in wheel size.

Or, go up a size in profile and reduce the tyre width within the published allowable width for the wheel, e.g. a 19x8 wheel might* take 225 to 245 width tyres of varying profile to keep the diameter the same for speedometer calibration.
* This wheel size was used as an example, always check what a specific wheel will take, the data should be available from the manufacturer on an ABE table if proof is ever requested showing the wheel is suitable for the vehicle.

I'd probably switch to the standard R Design 18" wheels and tyres.
When we were looking for a late P3 S60 R Design for my good lady, I recommended avoiding 19" wheels because of the heightened risk of damage from our adorable potholes. The standard 18" wheels are also good-looking and seem to cope better with UK roads.

Thanks eveyone for your advice🙌 opted for 18 inch R Design wheels with 235/45 tyres from Torque wheels, Preston. Rides 100% better and less likely to bend wheels on Wales' craters! If anyones in the market for 2x bent 19inch wheels and 2x good ones give me a shout🤭 i won't hold my breath!
