Oil in gearbox and overdrive
On my TDI with M46, they replaced the clutch, the clutch cable, the master cylinder and the slave cylinder. Is it safe to assume that they then also replaced the oil in the gearbox? Also, what type of fluid do I need for the overdrive? ATF? And how much for a complete flush?

RE: Oil in gearbox and overdrive
It is not safe to assume that they changed gearbox oil. IIRC the same oil is used in gearbox and overdrive. It should say in the owner's handbook how much oil is needed and the grade and certainly in the Haynes manual.
All the best, Peter. |

RE: Oil in gearbox and overdrive
Check your invoice again!!! Clutch cable with hydraulic clutch!!!!
Oil is reasonably easy to change if worried. Drain plug is often magnetised so clean carefully. Also use a good quality socket i.e. 6 sides not 12 to undo the filler. I had a chewed one which a nice volvo garage had done up with a crowbar (FSH) and we had to eventually weld a bit onto the plug to remove it. PS Volvo usd a special synthetic ol in some gearboxes to cut down on noise but most used an ATF type. Cheers Nigel |
