D24T- fitting an intercooler
Ok, anyone technially minded? I want to fit an intercooler to my 740 TD,
as I understand it, one side of the intercooler is connected to the turbo, the other side to the inlet manifold- is this correct? thanks for your help Last edited by oman5; Jan 30th, 2009 at 17:05. |

2008 was a bad year for technical minds.
Anyway, the air does go from the box to the turbo to the IC to the intake. The turbos are different between the d24T and Tic. Not sure about the radiators, but there are ads that say they are the same. As the 940 diesels never made it to the US you can be sure that many over there have done this project so have a look at turbobricks , tdiclub and possibly some of the VW sites. jor |

yes thats how it is connected but the non intercooled uses low boost so you wont get any benefit from the intercooler . Once you raise the boost it will become worthwhile ...

Thanks for the help guys, it looks like there's more differences between the d24t and tic than meets the eye. seems that the turbo and injectors are different too. I don't think I'll bother, I'm too tight to go replacing components that are still working fine!

Should you happen to have a few quid to spare there is a 93 engine on offer at the moment, which would be the tic version. It's in Lancs at 250 notes and no interest yet, not bad for one of these in good nick.

2008 bad year?
Hiya,
You had said in one post 2008 was a bad year for technical minds. What did you mean by that? I have a feb 2008 volvo s40 2.4 diesel d5 bought from second-hand recently and wonder what to expect... Sharkyclark Oxfordshire |

Nothing serious, it was just that several of the more technically gifted td owners for one reason or another sold up or anyway stopped contributing.
This only applied to the VW supplied 2.4 TD aa D24 engine from the 70's 80's surviving in updated form to the 90's. Your d5 is a different and far more economical beast. jor
