Question K+N Filter. Is it a notifyable mod?

Would I have to notify my insurers if I fit a K+N Filter Element?

Hi,

I wouldn't thing so, as the K&N will fit into the standard filter box.

The safe answer would be to contact the insurance company and ask them whether it is notifiable or not..

The key words there are "his insurance company"...
May not be your insurance company.
Insurance companies all have a different view on things.
As I said, check your insurance company..

I nearly bought a Mondeo ST200 some time ago (just think - if I'd have got that instead of the volvo you guys wouldn't be reading this and I'd be a member of the FOC logging into fordclub.co.uk )... anyway, it had an air induction kit fitted but the general consensus was on those cars it does not increase power just throttle pick up (and it sounds nicer). My insurer is direct line and I stressed there was no performance increase and they said they would put a note on the policy but it would have no affect on the premium.

BTW, I haven't exactly told them about my volvo's ITG panel filter, dump valve or MBC yet.... hmmm... again you could argue a case that these things are not giving you any power increase so maybe they don't need to know... hopefully... ???

I've personally informed my insurers about all the modifications that I've made to my car. It's best to let them know, I've found that they just put a note on the car's details for quite a lot of the small changes. It also means that they will replace like for like. It's not worth not informing an insurer about a modification as they may refuse to pay out in the event of an accident if they haven't been informed about a modification. I do feel that insurers must stay competitive, if an insurer is difficult about modifications it' s worth shopping around.

des is of course right and whether or not the insurance company take any action is there perogative....
personally i have not told mine of my rica purley on the basis that i defy any accident inspector to open my ecu and recognise a rica chip rather than a bosch one...
companies will reject claims for whatever reason they can, so any physical differences should be disclosed....imo
cheers

Default Filter faff

Is this K+N filter visibly different to an OE one?
As Jod said would someone go through your filter box looking for a different element?
They are more likely to be looking for and induction kit.

Strut braces could be argued to be an aftermarket safety feature...
Only they are a safety feature if you go laroping through the lanes.

I think the filter will be the end of my modding for now.
I have fancied a saloon for a toy for a while, (has mostly been a 2.3 Ti 240 GLT. Now its an 850 or S70 Ph1. That one I can tweak to my hearts content.

btw was a saloon ever made with AWD?

Keep your boost up.

yes very much so lee, it is clearly disinguishable upon removal of the air box cover...it could be argued i suppose that they do not offer quite so much engine enhancement to a std 225 engine, so one could say if "pulled on the subject" that as the filter is cleanable it has been installed for economic reasons rather than performance....
