Nextbase 512 from Halfords

Just ordered one of these to be fitted next week. Their price is very good but the guy tried his best to persuade me that if I didn't fit one of their microSD cards(£20) and used one from the internet (£10) nextbase might not guarantee that it would work.

Scaremongering a little but you should check which cards are compatible with the cam (if you haven't already). My GoPro has particular requirements such as write speed etc.

Yes, you need a class 10 card. I am assuming that a Sandisk will work so I have ordered one. I have read on this forum that to hardwire it they need a micro 2 fuse jumper which Halfords don't usually stock so it will be interesting to see if they can do it.

I hope i’m Not too late? There is an issue with Sandisk and nextbase dashcam compatibility. Honestly there is. All other cards seem to work no bother.
Do a bit of research on this to confirm, as I have no personal experience other than reading of this issue more than once when shopping for dashcams, which are one of my ‘things’.

You also need a hard wire kit to provide 5v rather than 12v

Thanks. The card is on its way but I can always return it or use it in something else.

They may connect it to the 12v socket wiring which is very simple. Also the 12v socket remains ‘live’ for 7 minutes after ignition off which may mean that some quick stops may even be completely recorded, which could prove useful.

How much better is the Nextbase 512 compare to the Yi Dashcam? I've installed the Yi Dashcam and find it really clear during day time. Night time is clear but can't read the number plate in front when the headlight is on it.

I guess the state of mind of someone driving a 1994 Volvo and someone who have just got the SPA Volvo is very different
