Default Handbrake leather replacement

Hi

Does anybody know whether the leather sleeve on the handbrake of an 08 plate S40 can be easily replaced? Is it just a case of removing the plastic trim behind the leather and then removing the sleeve? Thanks in advance.

Very simple.

Watch this:
+ YouTube Video
ERROR: If you can see this, then YouTube is down or you don't have Flash installed.

And then pull the cover over the lever.

Edit: just noticed: you've got a newer interior... Then it is different. It is possible, think it was simply tug hard as it is pushed on.

Daim, mine is the 08 model, and it's different. It dooesn't have a gaiter, just a leather handle on a lever, the lever fits through the trim without a gaiter. Thanks anyway.

I've spent the last hour Googling this. I can't believe there is no information out there. It looks as though it may just pull off, possibly after the plastic clip at the back is removed, but there is another thread here that suggests it's glued. I don't want to try yanking it and doing further damage, i was hoping someone on here might have replaced a damaged leather cover and be able to confirm how it's removed.

I think it is one solid piece not removeable.

Thanks Daim. If this is true, it's a nightmare. There is another thread here though http://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showthread.php?t=93759 suggesting that the leather is glued on and a part number 30664510 is quoted, but i can't find that part on that website. It's ridiculous if you have to buy the whole lever assembly for the post-2007 models when prior to that the leather boot was separately replaceable. If anyone has any more information on this i'd be very grateful.

Well, pre 2007 has a rubber lever handle but a boot. You at least have a leather handle...

I doubt there is a parts number for the handle.

My I ask what is wrong with yours?

It's a total nightmare, Daim. It all started off when the mechanism for the bottle holder on the back of the rear console broke. I assumed you would just remove the panel and replace it - this is another thing that was easier on the pre-2008 model. You actually contributed to the thread, http://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showthread.php?t=148483, and linked me to a Volvo pdf. manual to remove the bottle holder panel, but that manual was only relevant to pre-2008 models. With mine, the connecting lead to the power socket had no play, so i actually had to saw the old panel off in several bits to get my hands to the lead to remove from the socket!! Then i couldn't get the lead reattached to the new panel due to the lack of play so i've had to remove the whole floating console and centre console. I've damaged the leather on the handbrake whilst trying to pull the centre console off. I can live with it short term but because the car is still in vgc it's going to really annoy me long term. It's a total joke if the leather grip can't be purchased separately, even if it has to be glued back as per the other thread. What should have been a 20 minute job (replacing the rear bottle holder panel) has now cost me countless hours and probably an extra £100 or so if the whole handbrake assembly has to be replaced. And what's even more annoying is the fact that there's lots of slack in the lead at the front of the console, but the way it's clipped into the underside of the console there's no slack at the power-socket end.

Obviously i'll be phoning a Volvo dealer on Tuesday to get some advice but right now i'm very unhappy.

I've Googled the part no. 30664510 mentioned earlier in the thread and that's for a leather gear gaiter, so a complete red herring.

The more i've looked into this the more it's beginning to look as if you would have to replace the entire handbrake assembly just for a new leather cover. That'a an absolute joke, it's going to cost a small fortune in labour since the waterfall and central console would have to be removed to get at the assembly!!!

If anybody can tell me different, the information would be most gratefully received!
