Default Reduced Power In 6th...

This may well be relevant to the other thread on ABS Service required but slightly different.

New gearbox in and all seemingly ok. Drove up to Kent yesterday and acceleration was fine until you put it in 6th, after which there was none whatsoever! It would maintain it's speed but struggle to accelerate any more. Cruise control came on but set it and there it wouldn't stay at set speed at all.

All very frustrating and missed the regular power it used to have through fuel consumption was better!

Going around the M25 and disco light time - ABS Service Required/DSTC Service Required. At this point the power came back in 6th! Absolutely zero lights on the cruise though.

I know the front right wheel bearing is making a noise, so guessing its linked as per the other thread but the symptoms are slightly different.

Any other thoughts?

I missed the original post but I was going to say try turning off DSTC if it happens again - that's the only system that can override (reduce) commanded throttle.

Interesting, thank you

I thought it was back to normal after wheel bearing change but no, there's reduced power only in 6th again. Bit of a pain when driving 500 miles to Ireland and then back again. On the way out I again had a disco light moment saying ABS/DSTC service required, which then allowed full power again! However, only until I had to stop and turn off the engine...

Cruise works but not in 6th but it does come on, just not fix the speed as required.

I'll turn off DSTC and go for a drive shortly and let you know.

Unfortunately that didn't seem to cure the problem I was slightly limited in road but there was not the usual kick that you get out of the other 5 gears when hitting the loud pedal as you might expect

Its definitely sensor related though as after disco light time, its all as usual. I will try and find a dual-carriageway and test it again but on NSL there was minimal acceleration when DSTC off (took me a while to work out how to do that )

The issue has only arisen after the gearbox swap and a new n/s wheel bearing, so shafts were out of hubs and so on. Gearbox is not a 100% match as the new one is missing stop/start sensor, which my car never had anyway but that's the only thing. The only other change is that I now have AWD which I didn't before and probably haven't for 6 years, due to a new connector thingy.
The final non working piece (once I got the car back) is the rear parking sensors needing a service/not working but for the life of me I can't imagine that is connected to the speed sensor in top gear! But who knows with cars these days, that's why I love a forum
