1990's Blue Paint code help please.
Hi guys, I'm hoping someone can help me with this one. Here's a photo of a Cannondale mountain bike frame from 1999. Volvo sponsored this team from 1998-2002. I'm trying to find the colour code, as I believe this was a Volvo colour from around this time. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I doubt you would ever be able to find the original code - it would be a special mix. However, take the frame along to any decent car paint supplier and they will be able to accurately colour match. It could even be a bog standard RAL colour.

Thanks for the info, Volvo Blue 124 is looking good. I tried Cannondale but they was as much use as no use. Unfortunately I no longer have the frame to match it against colour chips, but the paint code link has given me some great leads.
Thanks again. |

As I understand it, Volvo code 124 (Volvobla) was a colour which originated back in 1977.
Would it be logical to have used a 20 year old colour for this bike? Do you have access to a local car paints supplier? If so, I too would go with the earlier suggestion and simply take the image along to them (if that’s all you now have) and they should be able to mix a close enough -full respray- match. If you don’t then I would be happy to take the image to my local supplier and see what they come up with. |

1977 is a bit earlier than I hoped, but I know it was a straight colour with no metalic or pearl added. Do you know how long Volvo used this colour for, or any popular models? I have emailed it to a friend I know down the country who works in a paint shop, so I'll see what his views are. Thanks for the info

Don’t know, but just going on your ‘Code 124 is looking good’. If we are talking the same colour (and I don’t know what this colour code equates to n an actual shade) then all I can say is it originated back in 1977.
Just wondered what evidence you have to conclude that the colour this bike was finished in was indeed an actual car production colour at any time? There doesn’t seem to be any responses such as ‘I had model x in this colour’. Personally, I would still revert to getting a near match from the image you have, but.... |
