Default s40 back on the road

Hoo - bloody -ray

Following the timing belt snapping and the subsequent piston/valve interface (fortunately at the top of a slope so that I could coast the way back to my house), I have now got the dodgy s40 sorted.

Just want to say a big THANKS to Jabe who sold me a head to make the switch straight forward. The volvo moved under its own power today and the motor seems to run sweetly. I took it to the garage to wash off a whole load of grime from where it had been standing under a tree for 4 months.

Initially put back together again, it had a high idling problem which was traced to a brake servo hose (this is the first time I've worked on a car with something called "lamda" in the exhaust and something else called "fuel rail"). The injectors were not seating right and caused me a bit of grief too.

I'll buy some new valves and springs to repair my old head, and overhaul that in my copious spare time (ha!)

So lesson learned. Replace your timing belt on time saves a whole lot of grief and money!

(now need to change the belt on the v90)
