Default Volvo crash - definatly buying a Volvo now!

Hi everyone,

Just saw this on youtube, not sure if its been posted up, crash and roll involving a S1 V40, its amazing how the driver just climbed out the window and all the passengers in the rear and one in the front just opened the doors normally.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DU61MsU9CTs

Here are some photos of afterwards:

all well and good but what use are airbags and airbag curtains if they don't deploy.Volvo should be asking some questions here as to why they did'nt

They car didn't get hit at the front or the side, but more like the roof, so I doubt there are any roof sensors, but it also shows that even without the airbags the passenger cabin stayed intact enough for it to be survivable with no issue with doors opening etc

As you can see in the video , the driver's head never moved forward or sideways into the B pillar so they didnt NEED to go off . Now in other lesser cars they may well have gone of and they would be spent and finished ,wasted even . Then imagine the wreck being hit in the side by a passing car in a secondary accident, the side air bags and drivers air bag would still be ready to protect ... Trust volvo , they are world leaders in accident investigation and safety design , unlike you and me ... In sweden Volvo have sent an accident investigation team out to every accident involving a volvo since 1970 , can you imagine the data they have now after 1000's of accidents involving their cars ? Who else does this ? Everyone else just makes their car to pass NCAP tests ...
I knew somone who rolled their V70 into a field it rolled several times and ended upside down ,in the dark the interior lights came on and doors unlocked enabling him to find his phone and call for help after he stepped out relativly unharmed . ... none of his air bags went off either . there are many many parts to volvo car safety that the public dont even know about until it happens ..

This kind of thing isnt new with volvo , people have been stepping out unharmed after quite major accidents for the last 40+ years . Way back in 1971 HTV news journalists had a 145 on test and had a head on crash with an austin 1100 killing all in the austin , the 4 in the 145 walked away . since that day HTV insisted their fleet was changed to volvos, a partnership which lasted well into the 1990's ...

I think the S/V40 was one of the first cars to get a 5 star NCAP rating. I think the difference is that Volvo's focus seems to be safety itself rather than just passing the test.

Its only a 4 star car but then its the only car designed pre 2000 to acheive 4 stars as far as im aware.
