Default xc60 exhaust - replacement frequency and cost?

My xc60 is just coming up to 3 yrs and I am looking at warranties etc. One issue I am wondering about is the exhaust (not that there is any immediate reason to). Specifically, how long can the exhaust be expected to last and how much does it cost to replace. Any ideas?

Hi,

it very much depends on which part of the country you are. I see the car is diesel, and you are in Surrey so i would say a good 9-10 years or more depends on how the vehicle is maintained and looked after, but i'll be surprised if you need to replace any part of the exhaust before this period!

Default exhaust replacement

My 1998 V70 XC has only just had her exhaust replaced. It had started to show signs of a couple of holes, although you could not hear anything. It lasted 16 years and could possibly have been ok for quite a while longer. She is petrol and I see from the previous comments that may make a difference.

Hi,

there is a difference between petrol's and diesel's exhaust. Petrol cars exhaust system gets much hotter than diesels and this heating-cooling process results in the life of the system. This has a lot to do with the principal difference of how diesel and petrol engines work.
