Some are, some aren't, AFAIK it depends what ECU you have and who does it.

Fair comment, I'd not checked what specific car the link showed, I was just responding to the question in general terms, my bad.
Thinking about how these things can be detected even if it's not soldered.... A checksum value isn't necessarily *that* hard to defeat, it depends how cryptographically "strong" the mechanism used to generate it is. Unless you have the key used to generate it it does require you to spend a fair amount of time basically hacking the protection mechanism and if it's a toughie you could be talking literally years of runtime on a supercomputer. Probably not worth it just to hide evidence of a remap! Cheers, John |

hmmm bit dubious now.
I don't know much about this field of re-maps but have also seen that people such as RICA state that it can't be detected. So if it can be detected, time to get Trading Standards in. As that's not happened yet, I bet there's something in the small print from the people who do the remaps. Probably "can't guarentee it can't be detected" etc. vipes

Mine was definitely done via the obd2 ports and is undetectable by eye, as the unit wasn't opened up,
You'd be a fool not too declare things to the insurer, I suppose that's why i pay £800 a year for my car, Gary.

My MTE map was also uploaded and neither the tuner nor the car were ever out of my sight.

As Jethro might say we had a good time last week and we learned some important things......
One curiousity being that customers whose ME7 ECUs had been 'custom tuned' by some other vendor previously with a 'Branded' product found that their chips had been removed and resoldered. We have had a couple of previous examples of this anomoly. Now, every current vendor that I know of claims either to flash through the OBD or direct into an unopened ECU. With such claimed abilities why would there be any reason whatsoever to go back to the old methods? Regards, Don.
