Muffled sound from speakers - C70 audio - 2004
Hi
Some years back now i fitted an aftermarket stereo in my 2004/2005 C70 , it's a Sony unit , it's worked fine until recently. My C70 is not the dyna audio with the center dash speaker , it's seems to be just the standard offering. I think i've located the amp behind the N/S rear seat, it can be seen from inside the boot if you pull back the carpet/trim , it's contained in a metal protective cage with no access bootside ? is that the amp or is it to do with ROPS ? ... not sure , can anyone tell me ? What's happening now is the rear speakers sound muffled and very low volume , adjusting the fade fully to the rear speakers it's very noticeable. Also , bass sounds become distorted and rattly. The front speakers are fine. What I've done in trouble shooting so far ... I pulled the unit out and checked the wiring is still ok ... it's all good as far as i can tell , the unit was fitted with this kit , i think mine was from Halfords not ebay , but this is the same kit. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Volvo-C70...-/181696856480 I swapped the fronts with the rears on the output at the back of the stereo to see if it's the rear speakers that are borked, the result was the rears are fine again but the fronts are now muffled ? By chance a family member had a spare Sony unit almost the same as mine , just a bit newer, i borrowed this and wired it up for a test in case it's the stereo itself , no change, just the same. So i'm pretty much at a loss as to what needs to be done to get it a fix , could this be a problem with the amp ? or is this something to do with the front / rear fade not capable of working properly on an aftermarket unit. any help appreciated Last edited by andytc; Jul 11th, 2018 at 14:39. |

I would say the speakers have blown just find a test speaker to connect up and see if it sounds more normal .

The amp is still in use , there is a power cable for it that’s connected, no sound if it’s not connected.
I’ve already swapped the outputs to test the speakers , the rears perform as normal when swapped with the fronts , so they are ready to work ok. |
