wiring towbar
Hi, I have just purchased a lovely 1992 "940" 2ltr sedan (my sixth volvo). The person I sold my 740 too didn't require t/bar and I hurriedly dismantled same and merely cut the wiring from below. I now have no idea what the wiring colours are going into the lighting cluster as it is a multy connection, also what is the easiest way to pass the wiring from the battery to the boot?

RE: wiring towbar
I do not think that your model has a tow wiring connector (D5, 10-pin) in the boot area. I believe that you are from the North American continent by your reference to "sedan". If so I do not know the colours of the cable wires from car wiring to towhitch. It also is complicated if you have rear foglights on the car and on the trailer as over here the car's fog lights (rear) have to be cut off when trailer is attached.
However, tail lights are colour coded Red for the two left lamps and Brown/White for the two right lamps. Brake lights are Red/Yellow for the left lamp and Yellow for the right lamp. Reverse lights are Black for both lamps (left and right). Fog lights are Grey for both lamps.Turn indicators are Green for the left lamp and Blue/Green for the right lamp. I hope that this is of help to you. The best way to pass wiring from battery to boot is to lay in a fused wire, of sufficient current carrying capacity, through the bulkhead (firewall) on the same side as the battery and following the looms along that side of the car (under the side trims) and over the rear wheel-arch into the boot. All the best, Peter. |
