Default XC60 MY'11 gets new central console screen

I am scheduled to collect my new XC60 in Feb 2011 (!). Long wait, but well, the car is top selling model of Volvo now!
Two weeks ago I got surprise call from my dealer. He advised me that price of next year delivered cars changed because they got upgraded with new central console screen, the same one new S60 has. He sent me official Volvo statement informing about it with picture of S60 dashboard. The statement also informed that top dash display will disappear.
I had no choice, I reshuffled my options to keep price below certain mark, I signed new contract (which I had not yet) and I am waiting now for D5 AWD Momentum in Barents Blue color.

In my view it’s a retrograde step removing the pod from the XC60 but these manufacturers have to keep tinkering with the spec so it’s only to bee expected. My theory of it not being the best way forward was confirmed by a recent sit in the new S60 whose dash did not feel as complete to me as the XC60s but maybe I’m just biased!

Now that the black hole is disappearing where are the people who don't like the Volvo SatNav going to put their after market kits?

Guess it back to the unit stuck in the car windscreen ...

Default Garmin GVN53 module

Possible option may be Garmin GVN53 GPS module that connects to original screen. But only if the screen accepts composite or RGB video connections, which I am unsure of.

https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?pID=10573&ra=true

If that worked we would get powerful GPS with upgradable maps for fraction of cost of the original Volvo GPS.

That's what I went for - looks really smart, even after a day driving in the pouring rain!
