S60 R High Fuel Pressure 0088 Warning
My 2003 S60 R emmission warning light came on, took it to local garage and code 0088 (high fuel rail pressure). Forums said change FPS (fuel pressure sensor) - disconnected battery & released pressure (slowly) through valve (blue top). reconnected battery (also resets ECU) and drove car but when stopped and restarted light came on again. Next, which I think you should try first and save money on FPS is the PEM (fuel pressure electronic module). It is located above the inline fuel filter which is just infront of the drivers side rear wheel arch, put the heel of your hand under it and dunt it upwards and it should pop out of its holder. (these are open to the elements and were moved to inside the spare wheel well on later Rs). I purchased a secondhand one that hadn't been weathered for £50 off a specialist volvo breaker, reconnected battery and went for drive-job done!!.

Is that a different part to the fuel pressure regulator?

The FPS part is on the right hand side of the fuel rail located under the plastic cover. The PEM controls the speed of the fuel pump and pumps at full speed when faulty hence high fuel pressure.

I was asking if the part you replaced was the same as or different to a fuel pressure regulator.

The part I replaced PEM (fuel pressure electronic module) is a square 4" x 1.5" plastic box with an aluminium ribbed surface on front and a electric connect plug on top.

So if the part you've replaced controls the speed of the fuel pump, is there still a separate fuel pressure regulator or does this PEM take care of that?

Got one from Evolv Volvo breakers - not 100% certain it's at fault but praying it is 100% at fault, so didn't want to pay dealer prices! The girl said the one she had looked brand new so I wonder if it's been on a car that had the extension loom to move it to the spare wheel well.
