Default ECU & RICA

I'm having some smooth running problems with my V70R AWD at the moment - a 2.4 / 265bhp model. Basically the car seems to 'hunt' a little when on a constant throttle, particularly noticeable on the motorway if just cruising along. Not a big problem, but revs vary slightly and the car surges in line with rev movement. No warning lights on dashboard.

Booked in to the dealer in a couple of weeks for diagnosis - they suspect its the ECU.

My question is - Adam, would you test / solve this problem as part of a RICA program, or does the car need to be fixed first. Where I'm coming from is why spend money with the dealer if you can do fix / upgrade in one go.

Any comments?

Normally it's best if cars are fixed before the upgrade. Having said that, it's possible to have hidden problems without even realising it, which is why we do the diagnostics prior to an upgrade, using the same equipment as your dealer. The diagnostics is included in the price, but the fix may not be, depending on what it is since the fix may involve a parts cost. Hunting on constant throttle can be signs of a failing throttle control module, a notorious problem on these cars!!! It's unlikely to be the ECU, but not impossible. My advice would be to have your dealer read the fault codes first before doing anything. Based on the codes, you can then decide if you want your dealer to fix this before the upgrade, or if you want us to fix it at the same time as doing the upgrade.

If you do get your dealer to read the fault codes, ask them to print them out and send it to me, so we can help you.

Adam.

What was the outcome of your visit to the garage?
