Default Key Fob no longer locks/unlocks doors/works alarm

The key fob on my 2000 V40 was intermittently working, and then finally quit. It no longer locks/unlocks doors or turns on alarm. I replaced the batteries in the fob with new. Checked their voltage, and they are strong. I am thinking it might be a bad ground in the receiver, since it was working intermittently. (Ok, so I may be overly optimistic)

I think the recever is behind my rear view mirror. I thought I would ask on here first before poking around.

Any advice would be appreciated.

The remote central locking module goes bad with age on these. It is located underneath the stereo and is not too hard to replace. The only issue is these days sourcing a replacement module with matching fobs. There aren't as many of these cars being broken for spares.
