Body work repair - should I send it back?
I had some bodywork done which seems quite well done but I have just noticed something not quite right with it. Is this something I should expect with a respray or is it just a poor job? Advice appreciated. The issue I have is with some white marks down the side of the door where the edge has not been sprayed. Picture attached ... I assume this is because it was sprayed with the door shut which means getting into the gap is difficult, or it was taped off maybe. The question is, should I send it back to be resprayed again? The marks can just be seen when the door is closed.

Its very hard to see in the pictures, but are you sure its not polish or something, if its not polish I'd certainly be going back to get it doen right, only problem I could see is, you'll have signed the agreement to say you are satisified with the repair...

If you do take it back chances are all they are going to do is touch in the edges with a brush, it would be nearly impossible to spray the edges with a spray gun without getting overspray on your door panels, as above have you tried buffing the edges to see if it is polish?

Yes it is definitely not polish. It has a hard rough edge. The wife dented it in a car park. It got a new rear wing and resprayed rear door. I have signed the form but I was only given a few brief moments to inspect the car and there was a lot to take in - I might contact the insurance company though all the same and explain. The garage seem pretty decent, I don't think they would hide behind the form. I agree they would just touch up side, I could do myself but I assume they would do a better job.

Here is a before picture ...
BTW have had another look and am wondering if maybe I should do it myself. It is a very fine line and if someone isn't very accurate they could just make things worse. I guess it all depends on what can be done on the edge of a door, if spraying is not possible then as I already have some touch-up maybe I should go at it with a tooth-pick and paint. |

Are you sure...
That the white marks are actually paint..?? If it's got a hard feel and a raised edge, I'd suspect that it's "cutting" compound" used to polish the paint prior to waxing and finishing the job...
Try rubbing the marks with a cloth with some warm, soapy water... If it's compound, It'll dissolve and come away... It seems VERY unlikely that it'd be paint overspray because I don't think they'd have used white primer on such a dark paint finish... Just my 2p worth... Miti |

I would buy an aerosol of the correct colour from the volvo dealer , it comes with a can of clear laquer , and do it myself ...

Having done a but of spraying I think the advise above about this being either dried polish or rubbing compound is most likely. Its very unlikley to be paint but I guess not impossible. It may sound daft but using a light amount of rubbing compound shoudl remove it but if I found myself in this position I woudl contact the garage and ask for their advise. After all if you do something yourself and make it worse they are unlikely to sort out yoru mistake. Most garages woudl just take it back and sort it whilst you wait.

Thanks for all the replies. It is white and raised on the surface so will try some soapy water now. Will speak to garage tomorrow for sure.
