Hi,

Apologies if this has been posted before or is in the wrong area but I have scoured the threads and can't find anything quite the same as the problem I have.

About 2 out of 3 times when I start my car upon depressing the clutch and pressing the start button, the car tries to turn over but will not start. I press the start/stop button and then try again maybe once or twice pressing stop when the engine won't start. On the 3rd or 4th attempt it starts no problem.

All the while the dashboard, radio, etc all function as expected.

I was told at service and MOT 18 months ago that the starter "was knocking a little bit" and that I should have it replaced. I thought this was unnecessary as the starter had never posed a problem prior to this and for 18 months still didn't! I have read about similar? problems, that could be fuel pump related? or clutch sensor cable related? Has anyone got any experience of similar issues and how they were resolved?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds remarkably like a k****ered starter motor to me, specifically worn brushes

Check the 'Newsletter' thread! I recall seeing something about starting and how much the clutch needs to be depressed.

Started without a hitch 1st thing this morning and when leaving work this afternoon!

I'm suspecting the same boatie, suppose I could give up and let my local dealer look at it, but not all that confident they are the most competent after their warning 18 months ago!

Thanks tt82 I'll have a look and see what I can find
