Can you recommend a specialist
I’m looking for a garage who can look after my P1800. Any recommendations/ experiences within a reasonable distance of Ross on Wye?

Hi Paul. I was looking to have it checked over to see what needed doing. Bit rattly underneath and I suspect engine needs a tune-up, possibly even an unleaded conversion.
Another thought is if anyone knows a local talented retired mechanic with facilities who may be interested in earning some extra cash. Maybe he or she could teach me along the way….. Last edited by Simon703; Sep 23rd, 2021 at 14:35. |

Are you having MOT's done? It's a good basic check if nothing else. "A bit rattly underneath" might be trying to tell you something.

If I ever get my PV back on the road it will be APK / MOT exempt. It is all very well being exempt but I will at least for the price of an MOT test get a local garage to have another look over the car and do a decent test for the brakes... ...I can do loads of stuff at a DIY level but at present I am unable to check and measure relative braking efficiencies #### As for learning about doing stuff yourself many many moons ago I took myself off to the local college for a car maintenance night class. These days they might still do them and even have a classic car related course that doesn't include finding an Obi Wan Kenobi socket...

Thanks Derek, good call. I have just bought it, ensured it came with fresh MOT which it achieved with no Advisories. I think the handbrake cable is rattling. Maybe would benefit from new Springs. Mainly improvements as apposed to necessities. Comfortable nothing serious but I’m used to new cars and modern classics. I get ratty if I can hear my wife’s earring move(remember the Golf advert!!).

Check that the speedo cable isn't hitting the exhaust. Or that the Exhaust isn't hitting the body just in front of the axle or where it comes out at the rear valence. Neither of these would show on the MOT.
If you are jacking the car up to check, use an axle stand or two for safety. |

In addition while looking :-) have a look at the distance between the hand brake bracket and the Drive shaft centre bracket. I have installed a small piece of rubber pipe to soften the contact, see pic
