Default S60 No longer Built?

Was getting my car serviced today, and the service advisor told me Volvo have stopped making the S60 now.

Anyone heard this?

Volvo has been talking about rationalising their range for a while:

"Volvo to downsize saloon and estate offering in SUV-led EV push"

“We need less variants of sedans and wagons; we have lots of wagons today, with the V60, V90, Cross Country, non-Cross County, and a lot of saloons big and small, long and extra-long. We need to move from wagons and sedans; we will still have them in future, but probably not as many.

It's prioritising the best sellers, the S&V60's will return once things are stable in the supply chains again *if that ever comes to be* I would think eventually the S/V60 & S/V90 will merge into one model the S/V75 as there's not much between them anyway so why make 2 when you can make 1,an S/V75 swb and a S/V75 lwb with larger rear doors which will be known as the S/V85.

My understanding is that the South Carolina plant which makes S60 for all markets is at maximum production capacity, sales volumes for S60 are fairly low here so they have probably implemented a cut-back of the UK model for a period (or all time).

Polestar 3 production is based there, so they have very likely began to prioritize that and drop Volvo from there.

Well if anyone wanted confirmation:

"Volvo pulls S60 from sale as it re-evaluates line-up

Swedish firm said decision is "temporary" but wouldn't confirm when executive saloon will return

We're continually re-evaluating our product portfolio and as part of this process have temporarily removed the S60 from sale in the UK"

A little more detail in the article.

From the article above,
"The temporary pulling of the S60 might also be a move by Volvo to allow itself to focus on converting its factory in South Carolina, the US, to EV production. The flagship Volvo EX90 electric SUV, set to launch next year, will be built there."

"Polestar’s next model, an SUV called Polestar 3, will be made in both Luqiao and the U.S., where it will be produced at a Volvo plant in South Carolina. The Polestar 3 is expected to make its formal debut at an event in Copenhagen on Wednesday 12th October, with production beginning soon thereafter."

So it does sounds like the suspension of the V60 is coinciding with commencement of production of the Polestar 3.
