Question 195/60 or 205/60 ?

was offered a set of volvo mags. they come with 205/60/25 tyres.
my mechanic says he wouldnt recommend them as the 205 tyres are too wide.
why is a 205/55/15 OK but a 205/60/15 not ?
I realise i can swap tyres over but that would add to the cost.

Your quoting 4 different tyre sizes there (including a 25 inch one), its a bit confusing.
Arch clearance, wheels/rims(mags) fitting over brake assembly and amount of offset can all be issues.
The main one being the need to keep the diameter and circumference of the wheel including the tyre, as close to the cars original specification, in order to maintain the legally correct corresponding speedometer reading/callibration.

OK, well pretty obviously the 25 should have been a 15.
the wheels on the car are Chiron which i dont like the look of.
the ones on offer are Cetus. The tyres on the Cetus are worn so i may just get them anyway and replace them with 205/55 sometime in the future.

The reason 205/55/15 is OK but a 205/60/15 tyre is not is because of the difference in the height of the sidewall which would give you a different reading on the speedo. With the latter tyre the wall is about 10mm taller.

Tyres with 205 width will be fine on an 850, I have 225s on mine but the wheels are 7.5 inches wide! I'm guessing 850 Cetus' are about 6-6.5?
