Default XC 60 Meltdown!

My 2009 XC60 D5 185 Geartronic failed to start recently. The display indicated that the steering lock needed releasing and later advised to try starting again. The steering was not locked and insertion of the "key" and pressing the start button produced nothing but clicks from the console and glovebox. "Rebooting" by switching off, locking up and reopening after several minutes, repeated periodically made no difference until suddenly, after 1.5 hours, it eventually started as normal, with no error message. Is it likely that something overheated? Is this likely to recur?

With some obscure problems, 'leaving a few minutes' may not be enough. I have had a problem with the main display locking up where re-booting after a few minutes didn't work while leaving a long time may work while again removing and re-inserting the appropriate fuse had an immediate effect. So it may be a question of how hard you have to persuade the system to reset.

However, whether this impinges on your particular problem I don't know.

Has the vehicle's software been updated to current levels?

Default Outcome?

Hi sorry to bother you but I'm working abroad at the moment and my wife has gone out to go to work this morning and has experienced the same non starting problem on our 59 plate XC60! I suspect it's a problem related to the battery possibly needing replacement (car not fob/key) but wondered if you got to the bottom of why yours failed to start that day? Cheers, Clive
