Ecm-6805! 04 s60 d5 163
It seems I now have the 6805 issue on my D5!
Two days ago I was on the way to work and everything was fine until I decided to put my foot down on the dual carriageway when I got the message "engine service required" I sent the message away by pressing the read button and just took it a bit steady the rest of the way. Got in after work, started up and all seemed well again until I put the foot down when it popped up again - at this point I started researching the internet and came across a number of resources about this message! I have a mate who has a VIDA/DICE so took it round and sure enough it comes back with ECM-6805 I hear it can be various things from intercooler split, vac leak on engine mounts, leaking hoses etc but what is weird with it is that it never goes into limp when the message comes up - it just kind of revs slower. I took it on a good 100 mile round trip yesterday and noticed that on the way there it hesitated and had no boost until it hit 2500rpm then kicked in! That made me think vacuum leak? On the way back though it was different, in that in 5th gear at 80MPH it was really slow and sluggish to accelerate to 100MPH and didnt seem to want to go any faster than that - it was never like that before! I have got it remapped for about 2 years now, running 204BHP - so there really is something wrong here. i have to add though that i stopped for food on way back, and when started it back up again and drove the last 11 miles home it was almost like nothing was wrong! No messages, and i was booting it to try and see, pulled strong all through the RPM range and right up to the redline etc. Really unsure on root cause as seems different to what others have said in that there is no limp mode etc. I must admit though I think my intercooler is shot - i noticed oil in on the bottom and the fins seemed to have it on also - could this be the reason? I have it booked in my garage Tuesday but trying to brace myself for how much this is going to cost! |

First thing is check and if necessary replace the intercooler. They can be bought on Ebay for a reasonable price.

I would have thought that if the intercooler is shot then I would be getting loads of black smoke all the time, which I dont?
Or could it fail to a point that would cause these boost issues but not cause the car to smoke? |

mine threw this code up a while back, first thing I did was replace hose on the turbo as I had this go on my old s60 and that threw the limp mode up,after changing hose it still went into limp mode? In the end I changed the fuel filter and touch wood that sorted it.may be worth a try
