Unhappy Rough idle (which one doesn't!!)

Hi all

My '75 244 has the Stromberg CD175 carb fitted. Off idle she runs like a dream, at idle it's very lumpy. The car did this when i got it and i have replaced every single ignition component, replaced fuel pump and filter, inlet, exhaust and head gasket all new, timing set for unleaded (no pinking evident) and stripped and rebuilt the carb....to no avail. I know that from experience that getting a carb'd Volvo to run A1 is a task and a half but i'd like a more pleasant idle. Can anyone help???????????

thanks

When rebuilding carb did you check butterfly spindle for wear - this can let air past. Has it got the anti-diesel solenoid on it? This if faulty can restrict idling.

i think you will find there is a rubber diaphram in the carb that splits, causing your problem, i had this on a 1979 240. known problem with carbs, just check i have the right carb. for this fault.

I'm pretty sure I had a SAAB 900 with one of those carbs, it had a rough idle that I couldn't cure, eventually the diaphram split totally causing failure on the A30. Replaced diaphram and the idle was sorted out at the same time. Could be wrong as it was 10 odd years ago now..
