HI,
His feedback indicates that it should be Ok. I have heard that some locksmiths can code keys. Maybe Timpsons? Or google and find a few and ring to check.. Corrected link for you: Linky.... EDIT: Found this: Linky.... Quote:

Nice one, Des
I'd always been led to believe that only the dealer could code the key. Although Volvo may be one of the ones that they can't do. When I got a replacement key I phoned four dealers, who all told me that the car had to be linked to Volvo UK by modem to download the code direct to the key. If that's the case then it looks like even the dealers don't hold the PINs.

Hi, I got a 940 Immobiliser type key cut at a local locksmiths last week in Dublin for EUR 42 (£ 27.45 ) including the key. I also thought it was a main dealer item.

Hi,
Yes, I thought it was a "Dealer only" job to get new keys.. Obviously, with the growth in the use of these keys, the Locksmith fraternity have invested time/money in the equipment to be able to do it themselves.. Be interesting to know how well these "other" keys work and last as compared to OEM ones.. Des. . .

I asked in Timpsons yesterday if they could cut and code a key for a 99 V40 but they were unable to as it has a rolling code. Looks like a dealer for me.
