Default Anyone Come across this Problem?

Good morning to all,My lad has an older 850 which he has just scrapped (rusted body work) the week before it went he wanted to move it but noticed the water level was down so he tryed topping it up,half a gallon later and no sign of the water level he started looking under the car for the leak, nothing dry as a bone, lot of head scratching later he decides to dipstic the gearbox its full of water,he recons the rad has rusted through to the cooler for the gearbox fluid thats attached to the side of the rad.Just thought i would mention it in case it happens to any one else.Perhaps its another good reason to have a good quality coolant in the rad.Reguards to all.

Thumbs down

Hi, yes, thanks for the heads-up. It is a known problem with the combined radiator which cools the engine and the gearbox. The rad splits internally and feeds cooolant into the gearbox ATF.
